Few months ago, I've got an apple Ipad2. After two weeks of usage, non-stop researching, I've totally gave up from the "best tablet on the market". I'm happy with my Android tablet now- later is better than never. Let me tell you few differences between iOS and Android, which most of you learn too late- after they spend money on ipad2.
What I cannot do on my Ipad2 (what surprises brings us the iOS)
1. To start working with ipad2 you need to setup itunes account, which is free, but you must give your credit card number to apple.
2. After successful registration you can download your apps form itunes market- all of the apps that worth it coast money. The free ones are full of ads, spam, and are trail versions.
3. There isn't free or paid torrent client for iOS on ITunes market. You cannot download files form the web. Browsers doesn't have that option, there aren't any working apps for this as well. There aren't avi, xvid players also. They want you to download form Itunes and pay for every single thing.
4. If you want to put some media files form your PC to ipad2 you must use Itunes. You must convert all your movies to ipad2 proper format, otherwise they won't play. Conversion demands powerful computer with specialized software and takes time.
5. You can use your Ipad2 with only one PC. If you try to use in on second PC you will lose all your files uploaded from first PC. Cool, huh ?
6. Let's pretend that you need your Ipad2 only for browsing net and you aren't interested of playing films. Ipad2 don't have web browser with flash, so your online music and video players, animated web sites, facebook games simply won't work. You can watch YouTube only form the built in app. Most of the others vided sharing sites won't work.
7.Ipad browser doesn’t allow to save files form web pages, clicking on download links leads to nothing.
8. You cannot work with your home LAN network files with your Ipad2.
9. Ipad2 don't have a file manager, so you can't view your folder the way you transferred them.
10. Ipad2 doesn't have a USB in, which is capable of reading flash memory, memory cards and external hard drives. Actually you can use your USB input only with a camera connector to download photos directly from the camera.
11. Ipad2 doesn't have a memory card slot. The sim card slot gets micro sim only, so if your gsm provider gives you regular sim, you have to research web hot to cut it.
12. Ok, you can have some of this things works if you jailbreke your ipad2, but there isn't any jailbreak for ipad2 iOS 5.0 and higher available. Even if you have a untethered jailbroken ipad2 you cannot rid of itunes for file transfer, and some of the disadvantages above still stays.
So, what is ipad2 finally- a crappy web browser without flash support and a crappy mp3 player without flac support. They want you to buy everything from their media store, ipad2 is just a beginning of what you pay to Apple.
So let mi tell you what can I do with my android tablet for comperasment
There is no Itunes- I'm just connecting my device with PC, and transfer files, like on a flash drive.
1. ...or just log into my LAN shared files and copy some files.
2. ...or just download some torrents with free app form android market and then directly play them.
3. There are any kind of FREE apps in android market that can turn your tablet in real PC- torrent clients, xvid, avi players with codecs and subtitles, file managers, Bluetooth file transfer apps. You can play any format you want directly from your device.
4. You can use external flash and hard drives.
It's easy to hack android, to root or put a custom kernel, but I find that unnecessary- everything I want to works just fine. Everything needed is free, available and easy to set. I'm so glad I got rid of the Iad2, and so happy with my android device.
Ps. Ipad2 battery takes more than 5 hours to be fully charged, and my android tablet do this for about an hour. The battery life is almost the same.
